My fascination for Gold, My Mother and Gustav Klimt
My fascination for gold came from my mother who was also an Artist, specialising in fine art. When I was about 11 she introduced me to the likes of ‘Gustav Klimt’. It was interesting to see how to work with such methods as gold leaf, which my mother began to use in her own methods, giving interesting details, clarity and texture to her oil paintings.
She once bought me a book from Spain too, a little while back called ‘L’or des Pharaon’s’ by Henri Stierlin. A beautiful book fully illustrated with great photography of Egyptian Pharaoh gold artefacts, although written in French the pictures tell an interesting story, showing all the intricate details. With such influences inspiring me, I began to love working with gold, silver and other metallic fabrics, materials and resources.
